As so many newcomers are looking for jobs, we will connect with employment programs across the region to discuss improvements and best practices and connect newcomer single mothers with programs available to them.

Fraser Health

  • Fraser Health offers a variety of career opportunities. Search for keywords such as “food service” or “Cleaning” to find entry-level positions.

 

 

Regional Employment Programs

 

Employment Programs for Mental Health Recovery

  • A program through Fraser Health that assists people with diagnosed mental illnesses to find employment
  • Provides: resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, job coaching, etc.
  • Eligibility: Must have a case manager at the Mental Health Centre, and must be eligible to work in Canada

 

The Opportunities Fund – BC Centre for Ability

  • A program that assists persons with disabilities to prepare for, obtain and maintain employment.
  • It provides financial assistance for training, self-employment and wage-subsidized employment and adaptive equipment.
  • Eligibility: Self-disclosed disability or chronic health condition, unemployed or underemployed, eligible to work in Canada, ineligible for Employment Insurance (EI) programs and services

 Immigrant Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS)

  • Program helps with resume writing, job search, preparing for interviews, applying for jobs, and career education. Service available for newcomer youth who hold Permanent Residence (refugees, protected people included) and displaced Ukrainians eligible under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET), between the ages of 15-30 years.

Manufacturing Youth Skills Training – Mission Community Skills Training

  • The Manufacturing Youth Skills Training (MYST) program builds youth employment skills for entry-level positions within the Manufacturing and Food and Beverage Processing sectors. This is a 6 week paid program.
